Morgan Lewis partner Brendan Kalb recently presented at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) office in Tokyo hosted by the Alternative Investment Committee. The event focused on the operational and strategic issues facing market participants in Japan and reviewed cross-border regulatory developments and compliance challenges for international financial institutions active in Japan and Asia generally. Topics included updates on central counterparty cross-border equivalence, recent CFTC proposals affecting non-US commodity pool operators, experiences in cross-border regulatory exams and recent fund marketing, MiFD II and portfolio delegation, swap initial margin phase-in recommendations as well as recent trends in private fund and alternative fund structuring for Asian managers.
