Please join us for an update on recent developments in intellectual property (IP) protection on data and artificial intelligence (AI) generated works in Japan. In recent years, data has been recognized as a very valuable resource in emerging AI business. Data is the “new oil” in the Society 5.0 era.

Join us for a discussion on how to protect and utilize this new resource under Japan’s developing IP regime. IP partner David Sanker and IP associate Akiko Araki will discuss practical strategies for protecting IP and data as businesses everywhere recognize the value of both AI and the data used to train AI systems. We will cover a wide range of the relevant issues, including data ownership, trade secret protection, the newly introduced “protected data” system, copyright and data mining, and data privacy and utilization of data.
