Government regulation and other actions based on national security concerns are having increasing impacts on the legal and business landscape for the telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) sector, as well as other technology sectors.

Please join partner David Plotinsky (formerly of the US Department of Justice, National Security Division) and associate Patricia Cave as they highlight government actions and trends in national security policies, oversight, and enforcement that affected the TMT and other sectors over the last year, and share their insights on what to expect in the year to come and beyond.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Initiatives by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Commerce to regulate supply chain security for Information and Communications Technology and Services
  • Foreign direct investment reviews by the government, including by the Committee for the Assessment of Foreign Participation in the United States Telecommunications Services Sector (Team Telecom) and by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States
  • Increase in national security initiatives by the FCC, including pending proceedings that could subject new types of business to licensing requirements and to Team Telecom reviews, such as the Net Neutrality proceeding
  • Pending new regulations that will restrict certain US outbound investment in Chinese companies involved in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing
