Continuing Evolution of US-China Relations: 2023 and Beyond

The US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to establish a new Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (Select Committee) on January 10, 2023, affirming its intention to counter and manage China’s technology and national security posture. As newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy indicated, the Select Committee will “investigate and submit policy recommendations on the status of the Chinese Communist Party’s economic, technological, and security progress and its competition with the United States.

By all indications, the next 12 to 18 months will be a period of focus, policy shifts, and legislative proposals that will draw from the Select Committee’s intense scrutiny of a range of US-China strategic competition related issues—resulting in unanticipated and foundational effects on global businesses.

Please join us for a five-part series to examine the US Congress’s anticipated policy and legislative impacts. The series will address interrelated issues affecting global business and focus on intellectual property, sanctions, export controls, risk factors, and the potential for an outbound investment regime.
