The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic prompted the largest influx of federal funding to healthcare providers in the history of the United States. With the current appropriation of more than $2.6 trillion, with more projected in the coming weeks and months, healthcare providers of all types have been assisted by government funds and loans as well as extraordinary regulatory waivers.

At the same time, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and Office of the Inspector General (OIG) opened investigations into COVID-19-related fraud only a few days after the declaration of the federal public health emergency; such investigations are on the uptick, focused on public health issues such as CDC infection control protocol compliance and public fund expenditures. This government scrutiny is happening now and will increase through False Claims Act investigations, state attorney general (AG) investigations, OIG audits, and federal and state surveys.

Join us for our next Fast Break webinar, where we will discuss current enforcement trends as well as strategies for managing fraud and abuse risks related to the pandemic.

Topics will include:

  • Emerging priorities for fraud and abuse enforcement in the age of COVID-19 by DOJ and state AGs
  • Enforcement risks stemming from federal stimulus funds, such as the Provider Relief Fund and Paycheck Protection Program
  • Investigations, audits, and surveys on public health issues and mitigation strategies
  • Managing enforcement activity during the COVID-19 pandemic
