Join us to learn about recent developments at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) concerning privacy and data security.

The FCC continues to focus on privacy and data security issues. Most recently, the FCC initiated a proceeding to determine how to regulate the use and sharing of information that broadband Internet access service providers collect in providing such services to users. Additionally, the FCC continues to actively enforce its privacy and data security rules against common carriers, as well as companies that are not providers of telecommunications services.

Not to be outdone, the FTC is continuing to move forward in a post-Wyndham and -LabMD world. The Internet of Things, cross-device tracking, and Big Data continue to be hot topics at the agency. Finally, this presentation will cover discrete cybersecurity issues that are gaining the attention of US Congress. We will analyze lawmakers’ interest in providing law enforcement agencies with access to encrypted communications, as well as congressional consideration of an update to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.

CLE credit: CLE credit in CA, FL, IL, NJ (via reciprocity), NY, PA, TX, and VA is currently pending.
