A Legal Perspective on Silicon Valley

Thursday, July 24, 2014
01:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

HBO’s new hit series Silicon Valley is a tongue-in-cheek look at start-up life in Silicon Valley. The show is rife with examples of rookie mistakes and real-world legal issues faced by start-ups and established tech companies alike.

Please join us for a fun evening including food, beverages, and an interdisciplinary panel discussion on how to avoid some of the pitfalls experienced by the show’s characters. While following our advice will not make for interesting TV, it will provide practical guidance for you and your company.

Topics will include:

  • Protecting intellectual property as it is shopped to investors
  • The rules governing assignment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and reverse engineering
  • Structuring a new enterprise and documenting its ownership and investment structure
  • Types of content protectable by copyright, trademark, and patent law
  • Legal actions for enforcement of contract or intellectual property rights
