PBI’s The Art of the Deposition: Taking, Defending and Preparing for Depositions – May 2016

This two day Pennsylvania Bar Institute program provides a unique opportunity for attorneys with little or no experience in handling depositions to learn how to prepare for, take and defend depositions and to use deposition testimony at trial. It is also a great opportunity for more experienced attorneys to improve their deposition skills.

You will

  • Depose opposing party's witness
  • Defend your own witness
  • Take the deposition of an expert witness
  • Receive critiques from leading trial attorneys
  • Take part in panel discussions with faculty panel dealing with ethics issues that arise during deposition
  • Observe demonstrations of effective techniques for
    • Explaining the deposition process to a witness
    • Taking a deposition
    • Introducing deposition testimony at trial

Learn how to

  • Deal with difficult lawyers and witnesses
  • Make objections and react to those of opposing counsel
  • Use an instruction not to answer
  • Use documents during an examination
