Starting 5 April, eligible employees in the UK will be able to take Shared Parental Leave and Pay. This new right is a radical overhaul of the existing family friendly rights in the UK and will allow couples to share up to 52 weeks’ leave and 39 weeks’ pay (less any period of compulsory maternity leave). Employers will face a number of new administrative and financial challenges to accommodate this new right and will need to be well-prepared to minimise the disruption and risk to their businesses.
