The first year of the Biden-Harris administration produced extremely active efforts in federal regulators’ oversight of energy markets and energy commodity trading activities. FERC’s Office of Enforcement and the CFTC’s Division of Investigations continued their mission of pursuing significant and groundbreaking enforcement actions against energy market participants. The agencies assessed, pursued, or settled millions of dollars in civil penalties and disgorgement from enforcement targets in 2021.
