Morgan Lewis partner Reece Hirsch was quoted in a Healthcare Risk Management article about waivers issued by the US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) concerning HIPPA compliance. In the article, he discussed the need for healthcare organizations to educate their employees on HIPPA compliance. “There is misunderstanding, and it can be a lot for people to try to digest as they’re trying do their jobs in these conditions. It’s important to be very clear about whether the waiver provisions have been triggered for your organization, and what is considered the minimum necessary deviation for your organization,” Reece said. “It should not be left to the rank and file personnel to assume there are certain waivers.”
