New California Privacy Board Poised to Balance Various Interests, Law360

Morgan Lewis partner Reece Hirsch spoke with Law360 about the newly appointed board members for the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA). The CPPA was established by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), after a vote in California in November 2020. The CPPA is the first agency of its kind in the United States, and the board members will enforce data privacy laws. “Companies should be aware that this new board will be singularly focused on privacy in a way that no California regulatory body has been in the past,” Reece said. “That is likely to lead to more robust privacy regulation and enforcement in the wake of the CPRA.”
