What to Do Before You Experience a Security Breach: Incident Response Plans and Other Preventive Measures

June 26, 2014

During the past year, high-profile data breaches have made it clearer than ever before that security breach response is a critical compliance and business issue for all companies that maintain personal information. Inadequate preparation for, or mishandling of, a breach can lead to class action lawsuits, regulatory enforcement, and, most significantly, damage to a company’s brand and customer relationships.

A purely reactive approach to security breaches is no longer prudent or consistent with best practices. This presentation focused on the proactive steps that all companies can take to prevent, detect and promptly mitigate security breaches through (i) implementation of an effective breach response plan, (ii) training workers, (iii) acquiring cybersecurity liability insurance, and (iv) conducting security risk assessments.

Morgan Lewis partner Reece Hirsch presented this Bloomberg BNA webinar, discussing key trends in security breaches, including:

  • Learning how to design and implement an effective security breach response plan.
  • Finding out how to evaluate your cybersecurity insurance coverage.
  • Understanding how to train your workforce to recognize and report breaches when they see them.
  • Discovering how to organize a breach response team that is ready to act quickly and appropriately in the event of a breach.
  • Learning current best practices in security breach response and notification.
