PALO ALTO, August 2, 2011: This afternoon, following a three-week trial, a jury in Virginia awarded San Jose-based ActiveVideo Networks $115 million in damages when it found Verizon infringed on four patents for technology relating to interactive television services, such as video on demand used by FiOS TV.
According to PatStats.org, this is the third-largest patent verdict in the country this decade, and the single biggest in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia since the site began tracking information in 2005 (nearly twice the size of the next largest in the EDVA, which was for $58 million). The case is ActiveVideo Networks, Inc. v. Verizon Communications, Inc. et al.
