Three Morgan Lewis Lawyers Honored with Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing

CHICAGO, April 22, 2014: Morgan Lewis is pleased to announce that Charles Jackson, Gregory Abrams, and Emily Glunz have been awarded the Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing for their article “EEOC’s Updated Enforcement Guidance on the Use of Arrest and Conviction Records in Employment Decisions: Developments in Year One,” originally published in the Bloomberg BNA Daily Labor Report on November 1, 2013. The article, which was one of thirty selected by the Burton Awards for the distinction, examines the wording of 2012 EEOC guidance, which set out new considerations for employers screening job candidates for criminal history. The article covers the evolution of relevant case law and offers recommendations for employers putting into place a criminal record policy that balances business interests with EEOC guidance and existing law.

The Burton Awards are a non-profit program funded by the Burton Foundation and run in association with the Library of Congress. The Burton Awards were established to honor the finest accomplishments in law, including writing, reform, public service and interest, regulatory innovation, and lifetime achievements in the profession.

Charles Jackson is a partner in Morgan Lewis’s Labor and Employment Practice in Chicago. Mr. Jackson concentrates his practice on class action and complex employee benefits litigation. He has handled cases before federal and state appellate courts and has served as counsel in significant labor, employment, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Gregory Abrams and Emily Glunz are associates in Morgan Lewis’s Labor and Employment Practice, also resident in Chicago. Mr. Abrams represents clients in a broad range of labor and employment law matters in individual and class proceedings in multiple jurisdictions nationwide, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, and other state and local fair employment agencies. Ms. Glunz represents management in discrimination and complex employee benefits matters, including single-plaintiff, multi-plaintiff and complex class action litigation.
