WASHINGTON AND HOUSTON, February 16, 2016: Morgan Lewis has further strengthened its premier energy team with the arrival of Kirstin Gibbs, a lawyer with a wide-ranging background representing clients in the oil and gas industry. Ms. Gibbs, who joins as a partner practicing from both Washington, DC, and Houston, was a partner at another prominent energy firm.

“Kirstin comes to our firm at a time of enormous change for the oil and gas industry, one that presents both significant challenges and important new opportunities for our clients,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Her multifaceted capabilities will continue to serve clients well as they seek to successfully navigate the myriad issues they face.”

Ms. Gibbs—who focuses on regulatory issues and the regulatory aspects of transactions—represents pipelines, producers, traders, marketers, utilities, and end-users in matters related to oil and gas sales, financial trading, transportation, and storage. She advises clients on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) market participation, FERC compliance and enforcement actions, and rate and policy matters involving natural gas and oil companies. Ms. Gibbs also provides transactional advice to major oil and gas producers and pipeline shippers and owners.

As part of her work on transactional matters, she counsels global and US-based clients in connection with liquefied natural gas (LNG) issues including supply, siting, and maritime concerns, as well as obtaining import and export authorizations from the US Department of Energy. She frequently writes and speaks on LNG and other topics affecting the oil and gas industry.

“We consider Kirstin one of the elite oil and gas regulatory lawyers in the field,” said Kathryn Sutton, leader of Morgan Lewis’s energy practice. “We expect that enforcement and compliance actions, regulatory proceedings, and regulatory risk management will continue to be of substantial concern to our clients, and Kirstin has the ideal background to assist them in these areas.”

“Kirstin adds a wealth of regulatory and transactional experience to our energy practice, particularly in connection with midstream transactions” said David Asmus, global leader of the firm’s energy transactions team. “She is ideally suited to help clients needing assistance with marketing, pipeline, terminal, and related matters, whether regulatory, transactional, or litigation—or a combination of all of the above.”
