Morgan Lewis Advises EBRD on Financing of Solar Project in Kazakhstan

LONDON, July 10, 2019: Morgan Lewis has advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on a loan to China-based developer Universal Energy for the construction of a new 30 megawatt solar power plant in Zhangiz-tobe, Kazakhstan.

The financing package, arranged by the EBRD, also includes a loan funded using the resources of the Green Climate Fund. The plant will generate over 38,900 megawatts of electricity per year and will help to reduce CO2 emissions by 31,650 tons per year.

Morgan Lewis partner Bruce Johnston in London led the team advising the EBRD. The team also included associates Rory Wilson in London, Cheryl Chan in Singapore, Sabrina He in Shanghai, and Karina Ilyussizova in Almaty.
