California’s New Data Privacy Law Could Hit Mom-and-Pops Hard, The Epoch Times

Morgan Lewis partner Reece Hirsch spoke with The Epoch Times for an article about the impact of the California Consumer Privacy Act. In the article, he discussed areas in the law in need of clarification. “One important area is this definition of a ‘sell,’” said Reece, noting that as currently written, the law could include a broad range of uses of data by third parties: “[f]or example, the developed algorithms for artificial intelligence purposes, or for the delivery of online advertising, which is a huge industry [that could be] impacted by some of the new restrictions.”
