WASHINGTON, DC, July 29, 2021: The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) has recognized Morgan Lewis partner Susan Baker Manning with its Paula L. Ettelbrick Award in honor of her lifetime commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The award celebrates unparalleled achievement by an individual or an organization in advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender attorneys. The award is named for the late Paula L. Ettelbrick, who held various leadership positions in some of the most influential LGBT rights groups during her 25-year career.
As the firm’s senior pro bono trial lawyer, Susan leads large impact litigation matters in support of at-risk individuals and underrepresented groups, such as those seeking access to housing, healthcare, education, and other public benefits, as well as those fleeing persecution in their home countries. Most recently Susan demonstrated her efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion through her successful representation of same-sex married parents fighting to secure US citizenship for their children born abroad and legal advocacy to protect the voting rights of Americans across the country. Susan’s other major pro bono matters have included representing hundreds of businesses—including dozens of Fortune 500 companies—in amicus briefs to the US Supreme Court supporting marriage equality. She also focuses on expanding the firm’s longstanding commitment to civil liberties work across numerous issues, deepening relationships with clients and current partner organizations, and forming alliances with new ones.
Susan will receive the award during MCCA’s 2021 Creating Pathways to Diversity Conference on October 12.
