NIL Rules Add Additional Pressure, Costs to Small Colleges, The National Observer Higher Education

Partner Baird Fogel was quoted in The National Observer Higher Education regarding the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA’s) name, image, and likeness (NIL) rule and its potential impact on D-2 and D-3 colleges. The rule would allow college athletes to profit off the use of their personal brands, which could change how colleges view both athlete expenses and compliance issues. Baird said, “[T]he colleges that find boosters early to support internal NIL policies, engage in third-party partnerships with consultants, or otherwise find creative ways to educate students on the risks and opportunities supported with NIL, will be the most successful recruiters of student-athletes down the line.”
