A Rare Cyberthreat Sparks Rarer Candor, EnergyWire

A recent cyber breach in an energy-sector supplier has prompted the industry to deal with potential cybersecurity threats. While updated critical infrastructure protection standards may apply to major US grid operators, big utilities could start posing more cybersecurity questions and baseline contract requirements to their suppliers.

“This is the first time that the vendors are really trying to be more proactive and say, ‘We can do this. We can try to put a program in place and work with you on compliance’,” said Daniel Skees, a partner at the Morgan Lewis law firm who regularly represents energy companies before FERC.
