Federal Death Sentence Is Used Less Commonly Than State Penalty, The Wall Street Journal

The federal government has executed three inmates since federal capital punishment was revived under the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. Most executions are carried out by states, with 17 recorded in 2016 alone.
