WASHINGTON, DC, March 21, 2018: Morgan Lewis partner Giovanna M. Cinelli has been named to a third term on the Virginia/DC Export Council. Partner Margaret Gatti is the vice-chairperson of the Mid-Atlantic Export Council, which also recently renewed her four-year term.
The advisory councils are composed of regional business leaders who are appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce to serve as resources to small- and medium-sized local businesses, advising them of developments affecting export and import activities as well as opportunities. Council members also sponsor and participate in a variety of trade promotion activities and advocate for effective trade policy positions.
Ms. Cinelli is leader of the firm’s international trade, national security, and economic sanctions practice. In 2018, she will serve for a third term on the Virginia/DC District Export Council, extending through December 2020. As a practitioner for more than 25 years, she counsels clients in the defense and high-technology sectors on a broad range of issues affecting national security and export controls, including complex export compliance matters, audits, cross-border due diligence, and export enforcement, both classified and unclassified. Recently Ms. Cinelli was named to legal publisher Law360’s editorial advisory board for Aerospace & Defense. She is ranked by Chambers USA in the International Trade: Export Controls & Economic Sanctions chapter of the guide.
Ms. Gatti is the vice-chairperson of the Mid-Atlantic District Export Council, which represents Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. She has served on the council for 20 years and will remain vice-chairperson until 2021. Formerly chair of the council for 15 years, she represents US and non-US companies, universities, and financial institutions in matters involving economic sanctions, export controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), customs and import regulations, free-trade agreements, antiboycott regulations, anticorruption laws, anti-money laundering legislation, international commercial sales terms (INCOTERMS), international ecommerce, and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reporting, as well as national security issues.
