CHICAGO, February 6, 2012: Morgan Lewis today announced that Michael M. Philipp—who has practiced in the derivatives field for 20 years—has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Services, Investment Management and Securities Industry practice, resident in Chicago.
Mr. Philipp's deep knowledge of the listed and over-the-counter derivatives and commodity futures markets, his experience in working with regulators and SROs and his considerable skills handling regulatory issues both in the U.S. and abroad will be tremendous assets for the firm's clients-especially as they navigate implementation of regulations spawned by the Dodd-Frank Act. He brings a wealth of experience in this area that complements the firm's Financial Services, Investment Management, Securities Enforcement, and Energy practices, among others.
Mr. Philipp serves as counsel to U.S. and foreign exchanges and clearing organizations, futures commission merchants, introducing brokers, banks, investment managers, brokerage firms, and private funds and other end-users in connection with exchange-traded and over-the-counter derivative instruments. He has represented foreign exchanges and clearing houses in their U.S. offerings of futures and equity options products and derivatives clearing activities.
Mr. Philipp is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Working Group on Financial Markets. He previously served as a Member of the Futures Industry Association's Law and Compliance Executive Committee, Chair of the Chicago Bar's Futures and Derivatives Law Committee, a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade business Conduct and Probable Cause Committees. He was also previously an in-house attorney for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, where he served as counsel to the Exchange's regulatory trade practice, compliance, and arbitration committees.At Morgan Lewis, he joins an Investment Management and Securities Industry practice that is home to more than 60 attorneys across ten offices.
