Tuesday, August 27, 2019

SILICON VALLEY, August 27, 2019: Morgan Lewis partner Michael Lyons has been named among The National Law Journal’s Winning Litigators for 2019. The special report recognizes “masters of the courtroom” who have won high-stakes trials for clients.

Michael was recognized for the game-changing victory last November on behalf of the Alfred E. Mann Foundation for Scientific Research (AMF) in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by the foundation against Cochlear. The US District Court for the Central District of California reinstated a $134 million jury verdict for AMF, and then enhanced the damages by double, entering judgment for $268 million. Michael was also noted for this year's $2.95 million jury verdict for Gavrieli Brands in a design patent and trade dress infringement case.

Michael leads the Silicon Valley litigation practice and focuses on intellectual property (IP) rights. In addition to litigation, he frequently handles adversarial Patent Office proceedings such as Inter Partes Reviews and Covered Business Method Reviews. Michael lectures on IP topics and has served as a guest speaker on IP enforcement at Boalt Hall School of Law. Earlier this year, he was recognized among the Top Intellectual Property Lawyers in California by Daily Journal.

Michael and the other honorees will be celebrated at an awards reception on October 30 in Washington, DC.
