Morgan Lewis Partner Named Director of the CFTC’s Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight

WASHINGTON, DC, July 18, 2019: Morgan Lewis partner Joshua Sterling has been appointed to a high-ranking position at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Beginning early next month, Josh will serve as director of the Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight.

At the CFTC, Josh will be responsible for the division that oversees the brokers, dealers, asset managers, and funds that are active in the derivatives markets.  The division’s mission is to protect derivatives market users and their funds by ensuring the financial integrity, fitness, and fair business conduct of derivatives market intermediaries.  Josh will be responsible for these functions and setting Division policy.

As a partner at Morgan Lewis, Josh represented asset managers globally, including the sponsors of exchange-traded commodity pools, registered investment companies, and other pooled investment vehicles. He helped clients develop and offer their products and services in the United States. He also assisted managers of alternative investment strategies in structuring their derivatives activities in compliance with the Dodd-Frank Act and related US Securities and Exchange Commission and CFTC requirements.
