SAN FRANCISCO, November 1, 2016: Morgan Lewis has been named the Law Firm of the Year by the AIDS Legal Referral Panel (ALRP) for the second time in the past three years. The award honors Morgan Lewis for its continued support of ALRP’s mission to help people with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area maintain or improve their health by resolving their legal issues.
Lawyers in Morgan Lewis’s San Francisco office have counseled and assisted a number of individuals and families referred to the firm by ALRP. In the past year, Morgan Lewis lawyers worked on nearly 15 active ALRP cases, obtaining employment authorization, lawful permanent resident status, and asylum status for the organization’s clients. In one recent case, the firm’s lawyers represented an LGBT and HIV-positive man from South America in obtaining a recommendation of asylum. As a result of the combined efforts of the lawyers and the ALRP to secure asylum status on his behalf, he will be able to remain in the United States, where he has been able to find consistent employment and receive treatment for his HIV and related health conditions.
The firm was presented with the distinguished award at ALRP’s Annual Reception & Auction on October 19.
