Morgan Lewis Sponsors Trio of Public Service Fellows Supporting Nonprofits

Monday, October 21, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC, October 21, 2019: Morgan Lewis is pleased to announce its sponsorship of three, full-time public service fellows who will dedicate two years of service to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States. Two of the three fellows are co-sponsored by firm clients Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Exelon Corporation.

The three fellows are law school graduates who will develop sustainable solutions for the organizations, which are committed to securing equal justice for individuals with unmet legal needs, reflecting the goals of Morgan Lewis’s award-winning pro bono program. Morgan Lewis sponsors the fellowship in partnership with the nonprofit Equal Justice Works, the nation’s largest facilitator of opportunities in public interest law.

The fellows, Samantha Farish, Eliana Green, and Alison Heinen, have already begun their work. Samantha’s fellowship with the Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program is fully funded by Morgan Lewis. Eliana’s fellowship with Root & Rebound Reentry Advocates, which offers education, legal services, and policy advocacy to individuals with criminal records, is co-sponsored by Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Alison’s fellowship with Beyond Legal Aid, which develops activism-law clinics for marginalized communities and individuals, is co-sponsored by Exelon.

Since 2009, the firm has co-sponsored 14 Equal Justice Works fellows in collaboration with its clients, allowing the graduates to assist organizations working in diverse fields such as immigration and asylum, economic development, and access to education. At the same time, the fellows benefit from leadership development training while receiving loan repayment assistance and a competitive salary. Nearly all Equal Justice Works fellows sponsored by Morgan Lewis ultimately have pursued careers in public service.

Each year, Morgan Lewis’s pro bono practice serves more than 1,800 clients. The firm focuses primarily on helping economically disadvantaged individuals and families in the global communities where its lawyers live and work. Morgan Lewis also provides legal assistance to nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations serving these populations. Morgan Lewis treats pro bono hours as billable, and in fiscal year 2019 100% of its eligible lawyers met the firm’s annual goal of contributing at least 20 hours to pro bono representations.
