This article, published in the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation’s 61st Annual Institute report, discusses and evaluates the controversy regarding easing crude oil export restrictions. The article concludes that “[o]n balance, recent studies and analyses support lifting or easing existing restrictions on crude exports as LTO [light tight oil] production levels continue to increase.”At the time the article was written, exports of crude oil were banned. Those bans have since been lifted.
