Retiree welfare benefits include non-pension benefits provided by employers to retired employees, primarily medical and life insurance benefits. The vast majority of retiree welfare benefits litigation involves post-retirement medical benefits and most of the legal principles developed in retiree medical litigation apply to other post-retirement welfare benefits.
