Lawrence I. Silverstein

After graduating Harvard Law School (magna cum laude), Larry clerked for  Judge Herbert P. Wilkins on the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. In the mid-1980s he left law and became president of Cohen Properties Inc., a 130-employee, diversified real estate management and development company that developed and acquired multifamily residential properties and office buildings in Boston, Washington, DC, and Hartford during his two years as president.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Larry was a partner in the tax practice of another international law firm.

• Tax — Significant number of like kind exchange real estate transactions typically in the $30 million to $100 million range; acquisition of 50 percent interest in Miami Dolphins
• Gift and Estates —  Gift, estate and generation-skipping planning for real estate developers, private equity principals, hedge fund sponsors and company owners and executives.  Related private foundation and programmatic gift planning
• Corporate — Merger of Aldrich, Eastman & Waltch with Copley Realty Advisors to create the country’s third largest real estate money manager, with more than $10 billion of assets under management; the $700 million sale of the Boston Red Sox; the $420 million acquisition of the Los Angeles Dodgers; various acquisitions for Boston Scientific Corporation; purchase of AS Roma soccer team; several major purchases and sales of large privately held companies including manufacturing, software and Internet companies, including E Ink Corporation and Trip Advisor Incorporated
• Real Estate — Acquisition of a portfolio of 28 shopping centers from Stop & Shop; sale of a portfolio of 15 hotels to Starwood; establishment of and advising various real estate funds, acquisitions and dispositions for funds
• Securities — Establishment of a joint venture fund with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc.; establishment of various real estate blind pools including six New Boston Funds; sale of an interest in the New York Yankees
