Matthew M. Papkin

Matt is a member of Morgan Lewis’s Class Action Working Group.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Matt started his legal career at the Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office, where he defended the county in civil actions through trial. From 2018 to 2019, he served as a law clerk to Judge Beth Bloom of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

• Member of trial team that obtained defense verdict on behalf of an automotive company in class action involving claims of deceptive practices for allegedly concealing a vehicle defect
• Obtained complete dismissal of a putative nationwide class action against a financial services company involving an alleged Ponzi scheme
• Defeated certification of a proposed nationwide class involving more than 7 million vehicles with allegedly defective heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
• Obtained the first dismissal with prejudice of a claim brought under the Helms-Burton Act and successfully defended the dismissal on appeal before the Eleventh Circuit
• Obtained summary judgment on behalf of an ocean transportation company in a Helms-Burton action
• Represented apparel retailer in putative class action involving allegations of misleading labeling
• Represented self-storage company in putative class action involving allegations of breach of contract and statutory consumer protection claims
• Obtained dismissal with prejudice of fraud claims on behalf of a US bank
• Successfully compelled arbitration in New York and Switzerland of Florida Franchise Act and contract claims brought by retailers against manufacturers
