Our real estate team handles transactions of all sizes and degrees of complexity for a wide range of clients, including developers, corporate end-users, real estate investment trusts (REITs), private equity and pension funds, institutional lenders, advisers, servicers, and colleges and universities. We advise clients on land assemblage, ownership, use, and development; leasing; dispositions; financings, including global investments; workouts; restructurings; and real property tax matters.

With more than 50 lawyers and other professionals in 13 offices, our team serves clients in the real estate industry as well as those whose business models use real estate as a strategic asset. Our clients benefit from our ability to collaborate with other practices across Morgan Lewis to provide coordinated and efficient service—whatever the demands of the transaction.

Real Estate Development

Our real estate lawyers works with regional and national developers as well as a broad collection of institutional owners, municipalities, and public agencies. We provide clients with transactional, due diligence, entitlement, compliance, and advisory services. Our development work includes counseling on land acquisition, entity selection and formation, permitting, tax strategies, construction contracts, architect agreements, condominiums, and resorts, hotels, and other recreational facilities.

Real Estate Finance

A broad range of institutional lenders and borrowers—as well as developers, private equity funds, and publicly traded REITs—rely on us to negotiate, document, and close mezzanine, construction, and permanent real estate loans and related transactions to help meet their business goals.

Real Estate Funds, Real Estate Private Equity & REITs

Our lawyers work on behalf of real estate funds, realty joint ventures, public and private REITs, and other real estate investors. Our REIT and private fund interdisciplinary teams focus on the business, tax, and regulatory issues associated with forming and operating such entities.

Corporate Real Estate

We guide clients through the myriad transactional issues that arise in the management of real estate holdings. We represent for-profit companies and non-profit corporations in leasing, acquiring, selling, permitting, and financing a range of real estate assets and property portfolios.

Green Building, Sustainability & Energy Efficiency

We have experience advising clients on green building and sustainable development matters, including green leasing and issues related to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Energy Star certifications.

Infrastructure Energy and Environment-Related Projects

Our team assists clients in securing permits and approvals; negotiating and drafting city and county development agreements; handling land use entitlement, utility right-of-way, and property valuation issues; and negotiating water supply compliance matters and settlements with various environmental organizations.

Higher Education Real Estate

We represent real estate developers, as well as colleges and universities, in acquiring, selling, permitting, leasing, and financing a range of college- and university-related real estate assets and property portfolios.
