LONDON, January 8, 2024: The Lawyer has featured Morgan Lewis for leading two representations in the publication’s Top 20 Cases of 2024, an annual feature of prominent cases set to be heard in the United Kingdom in the upcoming year.
The first, Russian Operator Policy Claims, entails a jurisdiction dispute over aircraft lessors’ claims against international reinsurers that participated in the reinsurance of interests in aircraft leased to Russian airlines. Morgan Lewis is acting on behalf of multiple aircraft lessors. A hearing on whether England or Russia should have jurisdiction over the claims is scheduled for February.
The second, Various Claimants v Serco Group plc, is set for trial in June and involves a securities group action under Section 90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act. Morgan Lewis is representing 60 institutional investors in a £147 million claim against Serco Group, an outsourcing contractor for the UK government, over allegations that the company fraudulently overcharged, did not disclose its profits to the government, and misled the market.
