John V. Gorman

John has tried cases in federal and state courts nationwide and guides clients through all phases of litigation from inception through trial and post-trial appeals.

John has litigated numerous patent infringement and commercial disputes across the United States, including dozens of cases in Delaware courts. He represents clients across a broad range of industries and technologies, including consumer and industrial products, fintech, gene therapy, medical devices, computers and computer products, semiconductor technology, software, gaming, and mobile devices.

John is active in the firm’s pro bono practice.

• Obtained a multimillion-dollar jury verdict for a large footwear brand company in a design patent and trade dress infringement case against its competitor in the District of Delaware
• Obtained judgment in favor of a vending and amusement gaming company in patent infringement action pending in Middle District of Pennsylvania involving electronic video game terminals and secured affirmance at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
• Representing one of the world’s leading fintech companies in a $40+ million complex commercial dispute involving an investment with a cannabis payment processing company, proceeding in parallel suits in Delaware Superior Court and the Northern District of Illinois
• Representing a major nonprofit research institution in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and New York Supreme Court in a $650+ million patent license and commercial contract dispute involving cutting-edge gene therapy technology
• Defended a prominent children’s hospital in the Southern District of Ohio in its contract dispute with a patient advocacy group over licensing proceeds from IP relating to hospital’s groundbreaking gene therapy technology
• Defending a US semiconductor company in multiple patent infringement actions brought by its competitor in the District of Delaware
• Representing a leading medical device company in competitor patent and trade secret misappropriation litigation in the District of Delaware relating to foot and ankle treatment technology
• Defended a semiconductor equipment and services company in competitor multi-patent infringement action in the District of Delaware
• Defended a leading manufacturer of mobility products in a patent infringement suit brought by its competitor in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
• Represented a leading food services provider in commercial dispute involving breach of an asset purchase agreement in the District of Delaware
• Defended a major multinational electronics company in multiple patent infringement actions in the District of Delaware in connection with mobile phone camera technology
• Represented French ultrasound company in patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute in the Western District of Washington
• Defended financial analysis software company in patent infringement lawsuit in District of Delaware involving data extraction
• Represented plaintiff, a global leader in protection solutions, in patent infringement case brought in District of Delaware involving infringement of multiple patents by prophylactics
• Represented a biopharmaceutical company in cross suits for patent infringement in the District of Delaware involving tyrosine kinase inhibitors
• Defended a major printer manufacturer in patent infringement case brought in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania involving interface circuits for using facsimile machines coupled to scanners or printers
• Defended a major telecommunication and wireless equipment company in the District of Delaware against allegations that applications and direct carrier billing functionality infringed patents
• Represented a major printer manufacturer in a trade secret misappropriation suit in Northern District of California involving encryption technology
• Represented a prominent national university in an action in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania regarding alleged breaches of material transfer agreements and patent infringement relating to client's cancer treatment
