Phillip D. Wolfe
Phillip Wolfe is a litigation-focused intellectual property (IP) lawyer trusted by clients to handle their most complex and consequential patent and trade secret disputes. Drawing on his engineering background and a practical, client‑first approach, Phil represents clients before US federal district and appellate courts, the US Court of Federal Claims, and the US International Trade Commission. He manages cases from the first strategic assessment through trial and appeal, helping clients navigate bet‑the‑company litigation with clarity and confidence.
Phil has played a central role in numerous patent litigations spanning a wide range of technologies. He is experienced across every phase of litigation, including pleadings, fact and expert discovery, dispositive motion practice, trial, and post‑trial appeals. Known for quickly mastering complex topics, Phil develops litigation strategies that anticipate vulnerabilities, sharpen legal positions, and align advocacy with clients’ broader business objectives.
In addition to his litigation practice, Phil advises clients on IP strategy and portfolio development, from emerging companies building their first IP programs to Fortune 500 companies managing sophisticated global portfolios. He guides clients through all stages of patent prosecution—from invention disclosure and examination through appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and continuation practice—always with an eye toward future enforcement and defense. His technical experience spans traditional mechanical systems, telecommunications, and cutting‑edge technologies involving artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.
Phil is an active thought leader in the IP community. He has spoken on issues including the intersection of IP and antitrust law, AI as an inventor, and inequitable conduct before the US Patent and Trademark Office. He currently serves as vice chair of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s IP Practice in Israel Committee, where he helps foster international collaboration and reports on developments of strategic importance to AIPLA leadership and membership. Phil also serves as treasurer of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association.
Committed to service both inside and outside the courtroom, Phil maintains an active pro bono practice. He represents individuals through the Eastern District of Pennsylvania’s Prisoner Civil Rights Panel and the National Veterans Legal Services Program. He also assists qualifying small businesses through the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts with protecting their IP rights.
