Healthcare Reform Roundtable Philadelphia
date(s):June 29, 2010 8:30 AM
- June 29, 2010 12:30 PM
Join Morgan Lewis Healthcare and Employee Benefit partners and leading expert Dr. Mark Pauly, Ph.D., professor of healthcare management at Wharton Business School, for a fast-paced session of strategic thinking with your industry colleagues about the implications of Healthcare Reform. Much has been said about the nuts and bolts of the Healthcare Reform Law. Now the hard work—strategizing for the future and making the relevant changes—begins. At the roundtable, we will identify the critical opportunities and risks for hospitals arising from the new law and facilitate discussions among participants about these issues, and Dr. Pauly will specifically address several of the practical implications of the law’s economic incentives.
Some of the topics that we will cover include:
- How and why will Medicare quality- and value-based purchasing payment adjustments trigger greater collaboration between hospitals and physicians? How should hospitals structure their collaboration efforts? What are the compliance challenges raised?
- What are the legal, financial, and resource challenges associated with forming and operating an ACO?
- Will the new fraud and abuse provisions significantly affect a hospital’s compliance approach? Is it necessary to modify the organization’s compliance procedures to avoid running afoul of the law’s mandatory repayment provisions?
- How will the payer mix change? Will the significant Medicaid changes help or hurt hospitals? Who will still be uninsured? What are the implications of these trends for the organization’s further growth? How will contracting with payers change?
