2015 Cross-Border Lending and Secured Finance Guide

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Morgan Lewis played a leading role in the recently released 2015 Lending and Secured Finance Guide, published by Global Legal Group.

With lenders increasingly seeking cross-border lending opportunities, knowledge of legal rules in non-US jurisdictions is becoming more important. The Lending Guide answers some of the most common questions that arise in cross-border lending transactions. Morgan Lewis partnered with the LSTA (the Loan Syndications and Trading Association, the New York-based trade association for the US lending market), the LMA (the Loan Market Association, a similar trade group based in London, with coverage of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and the APLMA (the Asia-Pacific Loan Market Association) to publish the Lending Guide. The guide offers insight into lending and secured finance work, with country-specific chapters addressing legal risk in various foreign jurisdictions.

New York partner Thomas Mellor served as the contributing editor of the guide. Mr. Mellor and New York associate Thomas Hou co-authored the first overview chapter, titled “An Introduction to Legal Risk and Structuring Cross-Border Lending Transactions.” In addition, Mr. Mellor and New York partner Rick Eisenbiegler co-authored the US country chapter.

Morgan Lewis’s role in this publication highlights the broad and deep coverage of the firm’s global finance practice, both in developed and developing markets. Mr. Mellor notes, “From our offices in New York, London, Frankfurt, Dubai, Moscow, Almaty, Tokyo, and Beijing, to the recent addition of the Stamford Law team in Singapore, to the leading work we do in Latin America and Africa, the Morgan Lewis global finance practice stacks up favorably with the best global firms in the market. We are excited for the future.”
