John V. Gorman
John V. Gorman is the managing partner of the firm’s Wilmington office, a leader of the firm’s global intellectual property (IP) disputes practice, and the leader of the firm’s Philadelphia and Wilmington IP practice groups. With more than 25 years of litigation experience, John’s practice focuses on complex commercial and IP disputes. He counsels a diverse group of clients, from global corporations to nonprofits, and represents both plaintiffs and defendants on high-stakes patent, trademark, trade secret, and copyright disputes in federal and state courts throughout the United States. John handles all phases of litigation from inception through trial and post-trial appeals.
John has litigated dozens of patent infringement and commercial disputes. He represents clients across a broad range of industries and technologies, including consumer and industrial products, medical devices, computers, printers, software, gaming, mobile devices, industrial tools, lighting systems, academic standardization tests, wireless products, and automatic fire protection equipment.
John is active in the firm’s pro bono practice focusing on asylum and citizenship issues.
- Obtained a multimillion dollar jury verdict for a large footwear brand company in a design patent and trade dress infringement case against its competitor in the District of Delaware
- Defended a vending and amusement gaming company in patent infringement action pending in Middle District of Pennsylvania involving electronic video game terminals
- Represents a leading food services provider in commercial dispute involving breach of an asset purchase agreement in the District of Delaware
- Defended a major multinational electronics company in multiple patent infringement actions in the District of Delaware in connection with mobile phone camera technology
- Represented French ultrasound company in patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation dispute in the Western District of Washington
- Defended financial analysis software company in patent infringement lawsuit in District of Delaware involving data extraction
- Represented plaintiff, a global leader in protection solutions, in patent infringement case brought in District of Delaware involving infringement of multiple patents by prophylactics
- Served as counsel for biopharmaceutical company in cross suits for patent infringement in the District of Delaware involving tyrosine kinase inhibitors
- Defended a major printer manufacturer in patent infringement case brought in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania involving interface circuits for using facsimile machines coupled to scanners or printers
- Defended a major telecommunication and wireless equipment company in the District of Delaware against allegations that applications and direct carrier billing functionality infringed patents
- Brought trade secret misappropriation suit on behalf of major printer manufacturer in Northern District of California involving encryption technology
- Represented a prominent national university in an action in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania regarding alleged breaches of material transfer agreements and patent infringement relating to client's cancer treatment
- Represented a major international manufacturer of industrial cutting tools in multiple patent infringement actions in the Western District of Pennsylvania both as a plaintiff and defendant
- Represented a major manufacturer of liquid crystal displays in multiple patent infringement actions in the District of Delaware
