Keir Baker
Keir Baker advises clients on complex commercial disputes, including litigations before the English High Court and arbitrations under various institutional rules (such as LCIA and DIFC-LCIA). He also advises clients on investigations and regulatory enforcement issues, including data privacy matters. Keir’s recent cases include some of the most high-profile English litigations in recent years, including market-leading securities disputes and landmark aviation insurance recovery claims. The Legal 500 notes that clients consider Keir to be “accomplished beyond his years” and describe his work as “truly remarkable.”
Keir has represented institutional shareholders of UK-listed companies in complex securities litigation. He has acted on a number of market-leading claims under Section 90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, including leading on multiple cases in which the English courts have considered novel questions of law relating to that provision.
Keir was previously seconded to Morgan Lewis’s Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices. During this time, he advised regional and international clients on a variety of matters under the laws of the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).

- A New York investment firm in a first-of-its-kind $316 million claim against a leading UK retailer (one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2020)
- A group of institutional investors in a £147 million claim against a major UK support services company (one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2024)
- A group of institutional investors in a £110 million claim against a large UK outsourcing company
- Global aviation leasing companies on various disputes, including:
- Multi-billion dollar High Court insurance recovery claims arising out of the retention of Western aircraft following the conflict in Ukraine (one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2024)
- Disputes with defaulting airlines and other lessees, including High Court claims for significant unpaid sums and associated leasing termination and repossession processes
- Disputes over the interpretation of lease agreements, including provisions relating to Security Deposits, Basic Shop Visits, dispute resolution clauses, alleged penalty clauses, and return delivery conditions (including required documentation)
- A UAE defence manufacturer and its subsidiary defending a £170 million DIFC-LCIA arbitration concerning the termination of a joint venture involving the purchase and conversion of military aircraft
- A UK insurance broker and its US parent in investigations arising from data misuse and privacy breaches involving notifications to the Information Commissioner’s Office and Financial Conduct Authority, together with a £25 million High Court claim for fraud and breach of warranty
- An Italian digital advertising company defending a High Court claim concerning the ownership of shares in a former subsidiary
- A Luxembourg commodities trader in a £16 million LCIA arbitration in relation to funding and offtake arrangements for a tin mining company, and a related Section 68 High Court challenge
