As a seasoned patent law professional with over a decade of experience and using his strong technology background, Manu Bansal assists clients in building and managing quality patent portfolios attuned to their business goals. He prepares and prosecutes US and foreign patents in electrical and computer engineering areas including video coding, wireless communication, network architecture, software, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. Manu is fluent in Hindi. He is admitted in Virginia only, and his practice is supervised by DC Bar members.
Manu works on strategic prosecution and post-grant proceedings involving standard-essential patents directed to video coding standards (HEVC/H.265, VVC, AV1, VP9) and wireless standards (4G/LTE, 5G, IEEE 802.11). In the network architecture area, he has experience in network design and optimization as well as network flow management.
Manu has successfully defended standard-essential patents, which he prosecuted, against inter partes review (IPR) challenges at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He advises on IP issues stemming from IP transactions and due diligence matters, and performs freedom to operate and infringement analyses to help clients navigate IP landscape in their marketplace.
Before entering the practice of law, Manu gained technical experience working at hi-tech companies including Qualcomm and Siemens. During his doctoral studies, he researched video coding and wireless technologies including research in collaboration with Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, NY. His research has been published in several leading peer-reviewed journals and academic conferences.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Manu was a patent agent and an associate at another international law firm for many years where he prosecuted domestic and foreign patent applications related to signal processing, wireless communications, video/image coding, medical devices, and robotics for large corporations and start-up companies.
