Morgan Lewis to Continue Expansion of International Energy Transactions Capabilities with New Partner in London

LONDON, July 6, 2011: Morgan Lewis today announced that Martin Stewart-Smith—a seasoned practitioner who has acted for developers, sponsors, and lenders on power and gas projects in the US, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe—will be joining the firm on September 1 as partner in its energy transactions practice, resident in London, following the expiration of his required notice period at his current firm.

"Martin is a well-respected projects partner with a strong LNG, gas and power background who will provide another key component in our growing international energy transactions practice," stated David Asmus, leader of the Energy Transactions Practice at Morgan Lewis. "Martin's arrival in our London office will mark an important milestone in the growth of our practice internationally."

Mr. Stewart-Smith focuses his practice on energy projects, ranging from upstream oil and gas developments to LNG projects and conventional and renewable power. He has worked on private-to-private merger and acquisition deals in the energy sector, as well as on a number of independent power, power distribution and renewable energy projects. Martin has also advised clients on privatisation transactions, including energy sector law reform in countries as diverse as Turkey and Northern Ireland. He has also advised a number of governments on institutional, legal, and regulatory reform in the process of energy market liberalization.
