CHICAGO, January 20, 2016:  Elizabeth “Beth” Herrington, a prominent litigator who handles a broad range of complex cases and dispute resolution matters throughout the United States, has joined Morgan Lewis as a partner, resident in the firm’s Chicago office. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Herrington served in a key leadership capacity at another international law firm.

Morgan Lewis also has added partner Mark Altschul, who represents clients in complex litigation and counsels companies on business strategy and dispute resolution. Mr. Altschul previously worked with Ms. Herrington at the same global firm. He also will be resident in Chicago.

"Our litigation practice is a core part of the comprehensive services we provide to our clients across multiple jurisdictions,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Beth and Mark are a tremendous addition to our team and they will be valuable resources for clients across the firm."

"Beth, who both has a national reputation and is deeply involved in the Chicago legal community, is an outstanding first-chair trial lawyer and strategist, with significant experience in a broad variety of commercial class action and other litigation, including as one of the leading trade secret litigators in the United States," said J. Gordon Cooney Jr., leader of Morgan Lewis’s litigation practice. “With her wide range of experience, she adds significant depth to our firmwide litigation and dispute resolution team and will be a leader at the firm."

Ms. Herrington has a national practice representing significant and diverse global companies in high-profile commercial and class action lawsuits across the United States. She has handled litigation at all levels, from arbitrations and trial court matters through state and federal appellate arguments. She also assists clients in strategic planning issues and in the negotiation, mediation, and resolution of significant disputes outside of litigation.

Ms. Herrington serves as second vice president of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association in a lead up to her one-year term as president of the association in 2017. She is an active member of the board of directors of Chicago’s Lurie Children’s Hospital Foundation and recently became a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, which is by invitation only. Ms. Herrington has been recommended by the exclusive The Legal 500 United States guide in the trade secret space. Her various representations have been covered extensively by the legal press and her analyses of developing trends is often featured in byline publications.

Specializing in complex business litigation, Mr. Altschul handles commercial disputes involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, tax controversy issues, and trade secret disputes. He counsels clients on matters related to litigation and business strategy and dispute resolution, appearing in federal and state courts and before the American Arbitration Association.

"Beth’s strong practice, her deep experience, and her passion and energy are a great addition to the firm and our Chicago office,” said Scott Schutte, Chicago office managing partner and co-chair of the firm’s Class Action Working Group. “Her arrival, along with the depth that Mark adds, is a pivotal moment as we continue to build our presence in the heart of the country and take our already-thriving litigation practice to the next level."
