Morgan Lewis Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of Morgan Lewis Stamford in Singapore

Friday, April 1, 2016

SINGAPORE, April 1, 2016: Morgan Lewis today celebrates the first anniversary of its combination with Stamford Law Corporation to create Morgan Lewis Stamford, Singapore’s only fully integrated law firm. The successful merger produced a business transactions, litigation, and arbitration powerhouse with the ability to practice across all legal service areas in Singapore.

“The formation of Morgan Lewis Stamford has provided the ideal platform from which to serve our clients in Asia, as well as those located elsewhere that have interests in this vital, dynamic part of the world,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Establishing our presence in Singapore coincides with the growing status of the city as a major gateway to the entire Asia-Pacific marketplace.”

From Singapore, the firm advises clients on their local, regional, and global matters, including those related to mergers and acquisitions, financial markets, energy, international arbitration, and litigation. The combination allows Morgan Lewis Stamford to undertake work that remains out of reach even for Singapore-licensed international firms. Cross-border matters handled from Singapore—as well as the collaboration of lawyers in Singapore with their Morgan Lewis colleagues in Beijing, Tokyo, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East—have created a host of new opportunities for the firm to assist its clients throughout the world, including Southeast Asia, India, and China.

“I am proud of the fact that our expanded reach has proven to be a major advantage for the clients we have supported in carrying out multimillion- and multi-billion-dollar transactions within Singapore, throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and around the world,” said Singapore Office Managing Partner Suet-Fern Lee. “Singapore also is the premier dispute resolution hub in Asia and now, in combination with Morgan Lewis’s litigation and arbitration strengths, we can address all of our clients’ global dispute resolution needs.”

Ms. Lee, widely recognized as one of the island city-state’s top mergers and acquisitions lawyers, has overseen the Singapore office since the Morgan Lewis Stamford combination became final on April 1, 2015. Her work has been honored by such publications as the Financial Times, which last year named her a finalist for its Innovative Lawyer of the Year award. In addition, she is among 10 Singapore partners ranked by Chambers Global, which also ranked seven Singapore practice areas. Ms. Lee is a key supporter of the groundbreaking Asian Business Law Institute which develops model business laws to serve as a basis on which countries in the region can construct cohesive legal structures.
