WASHINGTON, DC, July 25, 2018: The US Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that Elizabeth Baird, a Morgan Lewis litigation partner, has been named a deputy director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets.

Ms. Baird was one of two new deputy directors chosen to lead the division that helps ensure fair, orderly, and efficient securities markets by regulating major market participants, including stock exchanges. She had joined Morgan Lewis in 2014 focusing on securities enforcement defense, internal investigations, and individuals in connection with investigations before the SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

“Lizzie is an excellent lawyer who thoroughly understands the workings of the US securities regulatory system, making her an outstanding choice for this important position,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Her accomplishments speak to her exhaustive knowledge of the securities industry and its regulatory infrastructure. Our country’s investors are well served with Lizzie’s selection.”

A former Wall Street bond trader, Ms. Baird drew on her experience in earning a national reputation for her handling of complicated fixed income trading matters. At Morgan Lewis, she represented some of the largest and most well-known financial institutions in the United States.
