Commentary: New York City’s New Vaccine Requirements for Employers, Chain Store Age

Associate Dan Kadish writes in Chain Store Age about New York City’s recent updates to vaccine mandates, which require that private businesses ensure employees performing in-person work receive a COVID-19 vaccine by December 27. Unlike the initial round of vaccine mandates under the “Key to NYC” guidance, which are applicable to restaurants and gyms, as Dan explains, this new rule also applies to retailers and other private businesses—resulting in an additional 184,000 businesses needing to comply. “There are numerous open questions that retailers should keep monitoring” prior to the city’s final guidance and order being issued on December 15, Dan writes. “For example, the current guidance does not explain whether retailers will need to check the vaccination status of customers or other visitors entering their premises,” he adds.
