Partner Meaghan Kent spoke to Bloomberg Law about complexities involved with singer Rick Astley’s lawsuit against Matthew Huari, a rapper known as Yung Gravy who used an impersonation of Astley’s voice in a 2022 song. In his complaint, Astley claims his right of publicity was violated.
“It’s not a straightforward claim. They’re having to be creative with trying to enforce what rights he has,” Meaghan said. “They’re going to have to stretch a bit from the existing case law, I think.”
