Partner Alana Genderson is quoted in an HR Executive article about employee safety considerations amid summer 2023’s record heat. Alana noted that while the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) does not have a standard governing heat in the workplace, it does enforce heat hazards and provides recommendations about protecting employees. Alana recommended that employers with exposed employees should review plans to address heat.
“Even though OSHA does not have a specific standard on heat, several state plans do,” Alana said.
“Employers should be sure to know whether state or local heat hazard requirements apply.”
