Bakari Ziegler focuses his litigation practice on representing clients in all manner of cases, including business and contract disputes and government investigations. Bakari is a skilled litigator who is equally adept in both federal and California state court. He is evenly comfortable representing clients pursuing or defending against multimillion-dollar claims, bolstered by his experience drafting many complaints and dispositive motions, and handling all aspects of cases from inception through the conclusion of the case. Bakari also has experience in California state court, where he has taken and defended multiple depositions.

Bakari is a strong oral advocate, having participated in several oral arguments, including arguing a portion of a motion for summary judgment in federal court and convincing a judge to go against his tentative ruling and rule in a client’s favor on a motion to compel in California state court. Additionally, Bakari has experience in high-profile criminal matters as a member of a trial team that represented an individual charged with fraud exceeding one hundred million dollars. Bakari also maintains an active pro bono practice, advocating for clients on death row and in asylum proceedings.

Bakari Ziegler first joined Morgan Lewis in 2019 as a 1L Diversity Fellow and returned to Morgan Lewis for his 2L summer. In law school, Bakari had the honor of being the only 2L selected to the prestigious Berkeley Law Death Penalty Clinic, through which students represent clients on death row across the country. Prior to law school, Bakari attended UC Santa Barbara, where he was a member of the school’s NCAA Division 1 track team and was selected as a delegate to represent UC Santa Barbara at the University of California Student Association Congress.
