Bo Tang

Bo Tang focuses his practice on intellectual property (IP) law, including patent infringement and invalidity proceedings, trade secret litigation, patent prosecution, IP due diligence, and IP licensing, mainly involving electrical and software technologies. He specializes in a variety of technologies, including artificial intelligence, 5G NR, 4G LTE, semiconductor, battery, clean energy, autonomous driving, blockchain, digital circuits, operating systems, database systems, and electronic devices. Bo has worked extensively with companies and organizations in the United States, China, Europe, and Singapore, including a number of Fortune 500 companies. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English.

Prior to his legal career, Bo was a software engineer at a Fortune 500 company for 10 years. Prior to that, he was a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Mississippi State University, during which his main research area was artificial intelligence. When Bo was an undergraduate and graduate student, he worked at several semiconductor and electronics companies, performing various tasks including writing electronic design automation (EDA) software, designing electronic circuits, as well as installing and repairing large-scale LED displays at client sites.

  • Boviet  Solar Technology Co. Ltd., Boviet Renewable Power LLC, Boviet Solar USA Ltd. and Ningbo Boway Alloy Material Co. Ltd. (collectively, Boviet) in a Section 337 investigation before the US International Trade Commission (ITC) filed by Advanced Silicon Group Technologies LLC (ASGT) asserting infringement of six patents covering complex solar power and conductive cell technology. In September 2022, the administrative law judge found in favor of our clients on multiple grounds, including no infringement on all asserted patent claims, invalidity on certain asserted patent claims, and complainant not meeting the technical prong of the domestic industry. In March 2023, secured an affirmation before the ITC upholding the judge’s finding in favor of our clients. This total win helps our clients avoid a ban on the importation of a large portion of the industry’s solar products designed for clean energy. Also forced ASGT to dismiss its parallel complaint against Boviet in the US District Court for the Northern District of California in April 2023.
